Fire Drill For The Life-Saving Skills
About 200 students together with the teaching and non-teaching personnel of GIST San Fernando, Pampanga attended a fire safety seminar on September 20, 2023. The resource speakers, SFO1 Bernard M. Mantes and FO1 Ruben P. Manarang, Jr. from the Bureau of Fire Protection lead the discussion about the nature and behavior of fire and how it can become destructive to establishments which can cause severe injury to people or even result to casualties. The seminar was immediately followed by the fire drill conducted at the school grounds. The faculty, staff, and students were briefed before the start of the drill to ensure proper execution.
The fire drill, which was initiated by GIST San Fernando, Pampanga in cooperation with the Bureau of Fire Protection was conducted not only in compliance to RA 9514 otherwise known as Fire Code of the Philippines of 2008, but it goes beyond complying with the mandate. It was part of the institution’s proactive, preventive, and protective measures to ensure safety of its stakeholders. GIST believes that through this periodic exercise, everyone will be more equipped with the know-how in the proper responses and procedures during emergency situations such as fire incidents, thereby saving lives. As the saying goes, “Practice makes perfect.”
The branch head, Ms. Ria Sebastian said, “the drill was successful”. She lauded the employees and students for their cooperation and for demonstrating discipline and attentiveness by evacuating in an orderly manner during the drill. “We hope that everyone is now armed with the necessary knowledge and skills to take on any challenges in mitigating the risks and help save lives for any future fire incident.”
