GIST’s Medals Galore at the Heart of Antipolo: DepEd City Meet 2023
In an astounding spectacle that unfolded on December 9, 2023, the City Meet organized by DepEd Antipolo City became a stage for athletic prowess and spirited competition. The heart of the action, DAZSMA, hosted the opening program, setting the tone for a day filled with excitement and sportsmanship.
The journey commenced at DAZSMA, where students, teachers, staff, and administrators from 15 schools, including the powerhouse GIST, gathered for a day of friendly yet fierce competition.
Chess Mastery: GIST Secures Gold and Silver
The cerebral combat zone of chess at DAZSMA witnessed GIST’s unparalleled strategic acumen. GIST’s chess team displayed dominance, claiming both medals – gold for Kristine Mae Bolaños (ICT 11-7) and silver for Exekiel Matthew Consejo (ABM 11-3), and asserting their intellectual prowess over the checkerboard.
Taekwondo Triumphs at San Isidro National High School
At San Isidro National High School, the discipline and agility of GIST’s taekwondo team shone brightly. The stellar performance of Joshua Cabiles (HUMSS 11-4)
earned him the gold and a bronze medal for Jhomarie Orido (ICT 11-2)
for showcasing a blend of precision, discipline, and martial arts mastery.
Ballsy Basketball Display at Phase 2 Gasak Covered Court
The rhythmic bounce of basketballs echoed at Phase 2 Gasak Covered Court, where GIST’s 3×3 basketball teams showcased their skills. The boys composed of Gilbert Ramos (ICT 11-3); Rosfild Quemada (HE 11-12); Dustin Andrei Santos (HE 11-11); and Brix Francis Caguimbal (HE 11-6) clinched the silver medals, while the girls’ combined grits of Mary Lyza Dela Vega Dizon (HUMSS 11-9); Ghylian Mhe P. Liberal (HUMSS 11-3); Lyhiann Mae A. Atanacio (HUMSS 11-1); and Cyrha Marie T. Pombo (HUMSS 11-11) secured them bronze, a testament to their teamwork and tenacity on the court.
As the daylight faded away on the City Meet, GIST emerged not just as participants but as champions, leaving an indelible mark on the event. The medals they garnered symbolize not only athletic prowess but also the dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship that define GIST’s ethos. In his congratulatory message to Joshua Cabiles, Taekwondo Coach Ferdinand Gondraneos spoke about how proud he was for the outstanding achievement of Joshua in the recent Taekwondo competition, where his student not only secured the gold medal but emerged as the undisputed champion. “Your dedication, skill, and tenacity set you apart as a shining star in the world of Taekwondo, reflecting not only physical prowess but also unwavering commitment to excellence.
