A True-blooded GISTian Joshua Cabiles: Taekwondo Rising Star

Joshua Cabiles, currently a Senior High School Grade 11 student enrolled in the HUMMS strand at Gateways Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Cogeo, Antipolo Campus, has recently achieved a remarkable feat in the field of Taekwondo. He clinched the silver medal in the Poomsae – Individual Category at the prestigious 2024 SMART/MVPSF Luzon Taekwondo Championships. Held at the Centro Baler Sports Complex in Baler Aurora on March 16-17, the event brought together formidable competitors from various regions across Luzon. Joshua, representing and leading the CALABARZON team, showcased his exceptional skills and determination, making his mark on the competitive arena.

This recent success adds to Joshua’s already impressive track record. In the City Meet 2023 organized by the Department of Education in Antipolo City, held on December 9, 2023, Joshua emerged as a gold medalist, further solidifying his position as a rising star in the world of Taekwondo.

Ferdinand Gondraneos, Joshua’s coach, expressed immense pride in his student’s achievements. He highlighted Joshua’s dedication, skill, and tenacity, emphasizing how these qualities set him apart as a shining star in Taekwondo. Gondraneos’s confidence in Joshua’s potential was evident back in December 2023, and Joshua has proven him right by progressing from the City Meet in Antipolo to the grand stage of the Luzon Championship in Baler.
